Techquickie
For
many of us, there just aren't enough hours in the day to keep up with
new technologies, and the associated terminologies. It's not that we
have no interest, but rather that between work, sleep, keeping
children/pets and ourselves alive, we just don't get to play as much
anymore.
At the same time, we don't enjoy feeling stupid when nomenclature
for technologies get thrown around, and you possibly feign knowledge
and nod sagely while making mental notes to Google a term when you get
home.
To this end, we introduce "Techquickie", a very good YouTube channel hosted by the well-known techno fundi Linus Sebastian. Techquickie is not his only channel, but for people on the go, this is probably his most useful channel!
By
trying to keep his videos short (about 5 mins), Linus explains everyday
technologies in an easy-to-understand way. The channel was launched in
2012, and currently has over 700,000 subscribers, and his videos have
been viewed over 52 million times!
Here are a few example video titles that I think most of us may secretly want to watch:
- Solar Energy Explained
- Internet vs. Web Explained
- Robots vs. Androids Explained
- GPS Explained
- HTML5 Explained

Phlearn Photoshop and Photography Tutorials
Phlearn
has to be one of the best channels on YouTube, especially if you are
into learning more about Photoshop and photography! Driven by the talent
of Phlearn's
presenter and owner, Aaron Nace, his method for teaching is easy to
follow, for both novice and the experienced. Often funny, sometimes
corny, Aaron's videos are of a manageable size, with interesting
exercises and examples.
Started in 2011, and now with 690,000 subscribers and over 35 million views, Phlearn's
popularity has exploded, particularly in the last two years! With tons
of videos, it is hard to believe Aaron makes them available for free!
If you have an interest in taking better photos, or improving your Lightroom or Photoshop skills, Phlearn should be your first, and possibly only, online class.
